I am getting tired of my inline-6!. I am looking into put a V8 but I need some guidance. I don't want a tire burning powerplant. I need a decent power with a good gas milage and basically reliable. I was thinking of a 305 TBI?!. Money and cost is also important. To add to all these, My skill is average, therefore I preffer some kind of drop in units or somthing that I can just get the part from part store or juck-yard. Is this thing possible or should I just stick with what I've got?

The swap to a small block with auto trans is pretty easy. Look for a running donor car or pick up. Pull the motor and trans as a unit. Make the swap and sell whats left. Earl

I agree with Earl... depending on the model, you may need the ECM and complete harness as well

I see you have a power glide. Things to consider ( and perhaps others can confirm) are:
Length of the drive shaft.
Correct spline on the end of the drive shaft for the new tranny?
Will the radiator you have cool the v8?
You will be going from a two speed to a three or possibly a four speed auto, will the present shifter work?
You also need to look into how much work it will be to install a TBI motor compared to a carb motor.
Like said though bes way is to get a donor vehicle.
have fun and enjoy the end results!

Another question, what is a decent milage on the used units? Sorry to ask many questions:confused:

that all depends on how it was taken care of or looks in the valve cover. A friend of mine bought an 87 IROC with 128K on it that was wrecked for 500 and has been dogging that motor out for 2 years now. He put that in an old Mazda Rotory truck
