Ok,Found a old Car Craft October 1971 magazine and tells the specs for the 1972 cars.Mentions the 72 Nova SS Turbo Fire 350 CID 210 HP (RPO L48)(4V) 4 speed Manual 252:1 Low. 3:42 (STD) gear. So my question, was the 72 Nova SS cars also automatics or All 4 speeds?

Only 5840 were built with M20's so that would lead me to believe the balance were automatic 350th, 12309 L48 SS's were built in 72 or they were 3 speed manual.

Koool,I thought they put autos in the 72 SS Novas but there was no info in Car Craft on it.Would they have used the turbo 350 or 400? What does TR 764 look like? I noticed they offered NO black that year, darkest color was 68 midnight brown. Were there any optional gear ratios besides the 342's? Thanks!

Dan,

There is a posted site of brochures on all years of novas, that has a lot of information many ask and discuss. Go to www.classicnovas.net & click on brochures, the year desired, and fully read the information supplied. In 1972, the L48 options were std. 3 speed stick, extra cost options of 4 speed or the Turbo 350, which is only desiginated as 3 speed Turbo in the brochure. The only SB I know of to get the Turbo 400 was the Yenko Deuces. The Turbo was built for the additional torque or rpm capabilities of high performance engines.

Ray,Thanks! Hey I noticed the 3 speed was Standard but not available with SS.I noticed 4 speeds available only in the SS.I noticed auto's available V8 Novas only. I also noticed F70X14 SS models while 68 Nova SS cars were E70x14.....

All 68-72 Nova SS's came with E-70X14 tires. Yes,there should be a letter (K) in the vin number, first year they started doing that. The L-48 350's were rated at 200 net h.p.and as for the 4 spd. trans they were all saginaws that used the RPO code M20.As for the standard gear for the SS cars it was the 3.42 ratio.
