So, I'm wrapping up my major sub-frame-brake-line installation project, and ran into a snag. I've already installed the 1/4" rear brake lines, and have started installing the master cylinder to rear union, but the lines don't match size wise. I need an inverted flare 3/16" to 1/4" brass union, and cannot find one anywhere! It has pretty much stalled the whole project...so would anyone happen to know where I could find one? I see normal, 3/16" unions all over the net, but not the combo union. Or would another fitting combo work? Thanks.

Hi.. 1/4" is not a common size for brake lines. Are you sure they are a quarter inch. Maybe thats why you cant find the correct fittings. You may be asking for 1/4" to another size but in reality its smaller.. 1/4" tube is HUGE!!! I dont think its a quarter.. Double check.. JR

1/4" is not a common size for brake lines.

Actually, GM uses 1/4" brake line on many vehicles. The front-to-rear line on most 1967+ GM rear wheel drive vehicles is 1/4".

Unions that connect one size inverted flare to another aren't that common though. But adapters to go from one size to another are common. So you could use something like:

[3/16" line] --> [3/16" to 1/4" adapter] --> [1/4" to 1/4" union] --> [1/4" line]
or
[3/16" line] --> [3/16" to 3/16" union] --> [3/16" to 1/4" adapter] --> [1/4" line]

Another option would be to run the 1/4" line all the way forward to your master cylinder, proportioning valve, or distribution block. And use an adapter (if necessary) to make the connection.

I need an inverted flare 3/16" to 1/4" brass union,

need more info!

3/16 inverted flare MALE To a 1/4 inverted flare female.

Now on brake lines are different.

You have different nuts sizes with same line size.
The 3/16 brake line is the most common with these issues.

Now, NAPA Weatherhead has these specialty adapters.
They are never in the brass cabinet, mostly found in a brake line specialty assortment.

Now, if your wanting a female to female union for line to line. Your going to have to use 2 fitting. A female Union and a adapter male to female to male the smaller size on one end. you will not find a reducing female coupler with 2 different sizes. You will need a union and a reducing adapter.

If I understand, your wanting to go line to line. You will use #7828 with the union listed below

I thought maybe using the word "union" would have described it well enough, lol. I actually found the union I was looking for on ebay. It's a 3/16" to 1/4" female/female inverted flare union, with thread sizes of 3/8" and 7/16". I had to buy three of them, but it's worth relieving the headache I was getting figuring out how I was going to finish.
