Wheel fitment confusion

I am probably going to have to upgrade to 15" wheels to clear some rear disc brakes and am confused as to how backspacing affects offset. Right now I have some 14x7 wheels with roughly 3.75" backspacing on my car. The outside of the rear tires nearly rub the inner fender but there is 1.5" between the widest part of the tire and the monoleafs. If I was to to get some 15x7 wheels with, say, 4.75" backspacing would they bring the wheels/tires in 1" from the fender and set them 0.5" from the leaf springs?

most disc brake kits will fit a 14" rim

I would think so.

if you get some with a 4.5" bs you can split the difference and end up with 3/4" on both sides.

Thanks for the replies. I made my last rear disc kit fit with my 14" wheels but Moser say's I need at least 15" wheels for their kit. It's almost an like excuse to replace my tired old wheels.
