I bought a set of 2 inch drop spindles used. And when I got them the part # is for a first gen nova. And I need some to fit my 70.
The guy I bought them from had them on his 68.So what's the difference?
Thanks for any help.

are you sure there not for a first gen camaro?? if they are for a first gen nova they wont work..
stock spindles 67-69 camaros will interchange with 3rd gen novas..most dropped spindles are a universal piece from like a 78-84 monte carlo

They are mcgaughy's and the part # is 6267.Which means 62-67 nova.
I bought them from a member here who says he had them on his 68.

Just a little update.I got bored last night and decided to see if this stuff would work.So I yanked out the stock drums and started measuring.
What I came up with was that yeah they would work.So I put them on the car and had no problems doing it.
What the the deal is I don't know.Like I said I bought them from a member that said there off his 68.He assured me they would work and they do.
I am happy.I got disk brakes and the car looks better now to.
To bad I installed them in a hashed POS front suspension.Oh well just wanted to see if they would work.....

I would have thought the early spindle had different size ball joints compared to the 68- models.

You are correct. The taper and hole location are different, as is the KPI. They may seem to bolt in fine, but I would not recommend using any part not designed for my application.

Well you maybe right.
I put the driverside spindle first and noticed that upper balljoint was not seated all the way into the spindle. The lower one seemed fine though.Same thing on the passenger side.
Whenever I compared the top holes of spindles they both looked to be 5/8.That doesn't mean there tapered the same though.
I think I have read something about a ball joint reamer that could make this work.Does anyone know anything about this?
Man how come nothing can ever go smooth?..
Nogo can you explain a little more what your talking about with the KPI?
From what I could tell the location of the top and bottom holes in the spindles where the same distance apart and about the same angle. As was the distance from the center of lower ball joint to the hole where the tie rod end goes.
Also I got on summit's web-site and looked the pictures of the spindles and the one's I have looked like the 68-74 spindles. Not the 62-67 spindles. But clearly cast into the spindle is the part # 6267.

KPI is king pin inclination. follow the link it explains it better than I can.A few degrees of difference I do not think you would see by eye.

I will have to wait till I take apart the front suspension again to check for those measurements.
If they turn up different I will put them up for sale. And mention that they are DESIGNED FOR A 62-67 NOVA!Which I wish the seller would have told me before I bought them.
I believe I can still use the rotors, pads and calipers as the site says they take the same brake parts kit.I'll just buy the new correct spindles from mcgaughy's.
My car will eventually be getting a blown 800hp big block. With the suspension system I am building right now.So this stuff has to be right. At first it will be a stock 454 I have.
Thanks to this board I can figure this stuff out.
Hey ya live and you learn!
And oh yeah thanks for the help! That link explained it well.

If it's the style of dropped spindles with the integrally cast steering arms, then I think I know how they work. I talked with Danny Nix at CPP a couple of years ago about this issue. He told me that all of the castings start out exactly the same, whether they are for 62-67 or 68-72 Novas. (there is only 1 pattern to make the 2 different finished parts) He said the only difference is what size the ball joint holes are drilled and reamed to. If your balljoints fit, then I think you have the right parts.

This is not true. The ball joint locations are different. Remember the old spindles that did not work (it was nearly impossible to align the car) for the 62-67 cars? They were 3rd gen spindles drilled using a different ball joint taper. Later on everyone figured out what the real issue was- the ball joint locations were not the same. Call Danny again:yes:.

Sorry if the info I provided was wrong or out of date. The information I passed along was a couple of years old. It looks like the info I shared may have been related to spindles that wouldn't work right. Are the raw castings the same for the 62-67's and 68-72's the same?

They were a while back, but I am not sure about the "new" design (which has the bolt-on steering arms).

Well the steering arm is cast or machined along with the spindle.
SteveM your from festus?Me to!
I can take pictures if anyone would think it would help.I am thinking that the upperball joint is not reamed the same as the my stocker and that's why it wont seat properly....
