So far everything has went pretty smoothly, But I didn't know it was such a pain the get to the nuts on the engine crossmember brackets.. Amazingly we didn't drop any of the nuts inside of the crossmember.
65' Cobra 21st-September-2008, 06:01 PM Do you use the same engine crossmember mounts that were on the inline six for the v8?
NvrDun71 21st-September-2008, 07:32 PM Good progress, but ditch the gold valve covers asap IMO
Tommy 21st-September-2008, 08:24 PM I like the valve covers
Tommy :)
ALLT4 21st-September-2008, 08:54 PM I know what you mean about the mount bracket hardware, it's a real PIA and a test of patience, I almost unbolted the lower A-arm to get to mine but was able to JUST get some 1/4" drive stuff under there with swivels to hold the bolts.

Nope, I switched them out for the correct V8 mounts. Which is the part that was a pain in the ***...
As far as the gold valve covers, I hated them at first as well. But they have actually grown on me.. We bought the engine already painted this way from a buddy that gave up on his project. It is just a coincidence that it kinda matches the color of the car... We drove the car into the garage and had the small block sitting in and bolted down 4 hours later.. Not too bad for a couple idiots.. I hope to have the car running again this week, still have to gather a few parts..

Nova74ss 27th-September-2008, 09:24 PM took me 45 minutes to put my motor in
Dork 29th-September-2008, 11:41 PM took me 45 minutes to put my motor in
Well I wasn't trying to beat any records... But thanks for the info... :)
After I had the old motor out and crossmember mounts changed, I guess it actually only took about 4 minutes to put the motor in...
Mounting alternators without accessory holes in the heads sucks...

Tommy 30th-September-2008, 12:50 AM Thats funny :D.. He needs more gold stuff ... Less chrome, more gold and more braided lines   If you really want to be cool, find one of those red revolving light frames that went over the rear license plate, the one that said wolo one on the packaging     ..
Not the original but you get the idea :D :D

Dork 23rd-October-2008, 12:48 AM It's pretty much done.. First hot lap around the block with open headers has been done. Burnout in front of the house is done. Big powerbrake in the driveway, done. And then I finally drove it to the exaust shop and had 40 series flowmasters with turndowns in front of the axle installed. Fiancee wanted it pretty loud. We also installed a new front bumper filler since I had one behind my couch where it has been waiting to get installed on my Nova for the last 3 years lol.

haha been there.
when we replaced my old 350 for a new one we had to let down the lower a arms to get to um and they still took us about 30 mins for each side just to get the bolts lined up haha, they should really have thought about welding those bolts in there.
but anyways love the car, can you feel the diff going from an I6 to V8?
i could tell a little diffs in mine but then again it wasnt a stock I6
