So I've replaced tie rods, ball joints, bushings, idler arm, and I got new springs as well for my 63. I've installed the idler, and the new tie rods. Also, I put the new bushings in the control arms and put the arms back on with the new ball joints.
Ok. How do I get the springs in? I put the control arms back in but I haven't installed any shocks yet. Do I put the springs in first and then go through the top with the shocks?
Also, I can't seem to get the springs in place. I don't have a compressor. I was just going to use a floor jack, but the springs won't fit in place with the arms installed. I'm confused.
If anyone could give me a step by step on how to put the springs back in that would be great. I have to get this done asap as we are moving in two weeks!
Thanks.

Is it easier to put the springs in first, or should I put the springs in first?

I use a spring compressor. It is much easier and safer. Then the shocks go in from the top.

Is that spring compressor from Chevy2Only for other cars besides Novas? I'd hate to spend $50 on a tool I will only use once

probably novas only, early mustangs have very similar front ends,I have put springs in without it before, especially ones that have had a coil or so cut off,I have also used the twin hooking clamp that you screw to collapse the spring< they are pretty hazardous.......I recomend paying the 50$,,,use it....Then put it up for sale in the nova classifieds to re-coup your money

I did mine on a 3rd gen Nova and they were a PITA. However I went to Pep Boys and or Kragen and got the coil compressors. They loan them out and you return them when done. Check to see if you can rent them for free.
Good Luck - just be careful as they can be dangerous.

Has anyone used this? Can I tighten it with a socket wrench or will I need air tools?

this one is also an option, I replaced the top hooks with a big spacer. No cutting, no welding. PM me if you want to know more. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/jandac/63nova/00999903000.jpg

Well, that tool came in the mail today. Unfortunately my brother is getting married tomorrow (I guess that's not unfortunate for him) so I have to wait until Saturday or Sunday to get the springs installed. We're moving next weekend. I love waiting until the last minute.
