Well someone broke in and jacked my cd player and ipod yesterday from college....any recommended security systems? I didn't expect something to be stolen within the first month. This is a bad sign.

Do NOT leave anything in your car !!! Alarms are soo common now, people don't pay them much attention.

Well the worst part is...the car ws in a lit parking lot, with cameras, my cd player was hidden in my glove box, and my ipod was underneath my seat. Nothing WAS visible.

Old cars are MUCH easier to break into than new ones, except for breaking the windows. I can get my door open in 30 seconds if I locked my keys in the car. I do not even need a slim jim, and I can be in the middle of nowhere with no coat hangers around. IMO, good security is shaved door handles. Of course, those kits cost a bit. Especially the electric ones.

Did the person break your windows or just open the door?

my girlfriends uncle got his nutsac bitten by a pit bull last week. fortunately it was just the scrotum and not the testicles. you have a pit bull in your car, you could have a sticker that says "watch out for your balls" and then nobody would suspect anything. that or they'd question your sexuality.

on a more important note, who breaks into cars in arkansas? seriously. i drove my red '71 to long beach state for like 4 years and it was a LOUD eleven second car with speaker boxes on the floor of the back and nobody ever broke into it. get a pit bull.

Nobody messes with anything where I live up north, but at college down here 30 minutes from little rock, Gangs, theft, all kinds of stuff. Yeah it does suck a whole hell of a lot. They didn't break the windows, just jimmied it somehow. I don't exactly have weatherstripping everywhere, so....I guess they found an open spot to work it through. But seriously, I don't even have a subwoofer...I have a pair of Pioneer 6X9's in the back, 2 tweeters up under my dash, and my pioneer cd player. They left all the speakers...but the $150 cd player they got, and the ipod hidden up under stuff. I'm probably going to get the electric popper, but it's a bit expensive for right now. I really don't know why they decided to break in. Maybe they were going to steal the whole car and decided it was too much of a hassle and just took the radio. Idk why they looked so...who knows. It's an old nova in primer...I don't even have it painted yet. But man, I guess they didn't know crap about cars because I can get one broken into and started with just a flathead screwdriver. Anyway I guess monday I'm gonna go check the local pawnshop and see if my stuff turns up. They broke the knob off the cd player, and the pod has my name and stuff in it, so if I see it I can probably match it pretty easy. Just kind of a crappy day.

UCA in Conway. Who's your son? What lot was he in? I was behind Baridon by the physical plant. If you know where any of that is. Between Reynolds and the physical plant.

I know a midget...

I saw my grandson, Brett, yesterday and he said his prior problem was in the same general location. He was living in a dorm at that time but has since moved to a Frat house.

He has installed an alarm system and had no further problems.

I have a python alarm system and the remote beeps and vibrates at me within 1 mile of the car when the alarm goes off.......And also when it is armed they cannot start the car unless they figure out how to bypass the alarm(which is hooked to the ignition switch and the starter)

all the major alarms sold are made by DEI (not Dale Earhardt inc) but Directed Electronics. That includes Python, Viper, and now Ungo (formerly a Clarion Corp) all of those have a 1-mile range system of if you live in a city more like 1/4 mile range not line of site. as someone else said since alarms are so commonly going off people ignore them. me personaly in my nova have elec. door locks, hood pin, door pins, backup battery, interior motion sensor, immobilizer and a pain generator. Pain generators are uncommon but do a great job. basically it is a high pitch siren located under the dash that sends out ~120-130db siren that makes you think your ear drums are going to explode. (learned first hand). so the moral is currently all alarm brains are created equal its what you attach to them that makes them special. The other thing is that the 1 mile range is good if you are close by but will most like cost more than $500 because it has a remote start system built into it that you can not use on a non-fuel injected car.
