Steering wheel off center

Last weekend I took off my air shocks on my 64. Replaced the 2" lowering blocks with 1" blocks. I had both leaf spring plates off at the same time. When I got it back together and drove it my steering wheel is now off center. My steering wheel before the rear end work was centered going down the street. It used to be at 9 and 3 oclock. (the spokes on the wheel). Now the spokes are at 10 and 4. What happened?

It sounds to me like one of the leaf spring plates/lowering blocks is not properly installed and has slipped either forward on the left side or to the back on the right side causing the car to dog track. I bet if you get someone to follow you in another car they will see it tracking to the side. Measure the distance of the axle tubes on each side from the spring eyes and I bet you will find them to be different lengths.

i would check and make sure the rear axle is straight is sounds like you are not on the centering pins or one of the blocks are in backwards.

In simple language, just measure to see if the axle is equal diastance from either the front spring eye on each side or from the rear spring eye on each side. It sounds like one side has slipped either to the front or to the rear of the leaf spring slightly. There should be a centering pin to keep the axle centered front to rear on the spring but with the lowereing blocks that may have slipped some.

It is possible that your old rear axle was mis-aligned, and your new one is in straight.
