nukledragger 8th-September-2008, 01:13 AM It's not nearly in as good a shape as the pics indicate, the quarters are rusted bad. But, EXTREMELY complete and unmodified/butchered. Original red over black with cool trim options.

bigdaddykane 8th-September-2008, 03:39 AM "quarters are rusted bad"? is that supposed to be a joke or something?
PowerMax 8th-September-2008, 08:24 AM Car looks fantastic! I don't even see any visible rust, whatsoever. Good score dragging it out the weeds, looks like it came out of the showroom.

onecarnut 8th-September-2008, 09:13 AM Nice find. It has the upgraded steering wheel.
Is it a keeper or one you will be selling or parting out?
Novajay 8th-September-2008, 10:04 AM "quarters are rusted bad"? is that supposed to be a joke or something?
Yes, exactly how "badly" are they rusted? ;)

Great minds think alike.
nukledragger 13th-September-2008, 12:48 AM Tommy, this thing has those flaps below the door sills that don't seem to do anything except block the view of the frame when looking at the car from the side.
Did your '68 have these? Did all '68's have these?

68MotionL88Nova 13th-September-2008, 11:05 AM Awesome find!! Love those Chevy II 68's.Build sheet will be in the car seats if never out,go hunt it out! More pictures! Dan
bigdaddykane 13th-September-2008, 01:14 PM hi
how many build sheets will there be? i found one under my back seat. is there another? thanks
taz3 13th-September-2008, 02:45 PM Usually there is one,but sometimes you'll find a second one though.
nukledragger 14th-September-2008, 01:49 AM Hopefully there is one under the tank, I'm sure the one under the seat is gone because it's been recovered long ago. I'll let you know.
Waiting for storm Ike to clear out, may have some time to clean it up tomorrow.
bigdaddykane 14th-September-2008, 03:55 PM how is there a build sheet under the tank? wouldnt it be all deterioated? or weathered from the rain and moisture? or is it sealed up somehow? thanks:)
Tommy 14th-September-2008, 04:35 PM He means between the tank and the body. I've never found one on a tank in a 68 Nova myself. I think the Chevelles and Corvettes are more likely to have one. I have found them under the bench seat in some 68's and one in the upper back seat.
I replied to the earlier question about the under body curtains but some posts got lost recently. I have found those plastic curtains on several 68's and they are on 2 of mine now. I also have one that didn't have them, I don't know why some got them and some didn't. They really are useless....
Tommy :)
bigdaddykane 14th-September-2008, 04:55 PM Hi Tommy
what are curtains? the rubber platci guard under the rocker yu mean? do you have any pics of your car showing the rocker panel moldings? thank so much:)
nukledragger 14th-September-2008, 06:48 PM Thanks Tommy, wasn't sure if those "curtains" were an optional thing or part of a trim group or what?
I should have been clearer about the sheet above the tank, you're right, I found one on my '72 Rally car sandwiched between the tank and the body, it really was in pretty good shape, I would have thought it would have been far more deteriorated.
This thing also has the panel between the rear lights similar to the SS panel, but it's chrome. In addition, it appears as though the headlight bezels around the headlights are chrome (not argent like the panel between the bumper nor black like an SS).
Tommy 15th-September-2008, 12:14 AM I may have a picture of those plastic things. some people call them curtains and others call them "those ugly things hanging down under the car"... I have got to get out and take some pictures of some parts and pull a couple of things for some members here. I have been sick this weekend and it has been raining so I didn't get anything done.
Tommy :)
Tommy 15th-September-2008, 12:36 AM Heres some pics of them on a 68. This car was a late 67 built 68 and was a Real L48 Super Sport car. It's parts now.... nature and previous owners were not kind to her.... Once the rest of the parts are pulled it'll get crushed ...

It looks like most of the parts are still there. We won't let you crush it until everything that can be reused is removed.
What size is that slot mag up front?
Crazyjake 19th-September-2008, 02:43 PM Hey Tommy- Let me know what parts you are going to let go. I am looking for a few pieces.
Tommy 19th-September-2008, 08:03 PM Anything I sell off the car will be listed in the classifieds but right now it looks like I will be using or storing any potentially good parts. I sold the front wheels a couple months ago. The tire looks funny because it was flat. They were 15x4 1/2 U.S. Indy mags and they netted me 400 bucks for the pair. They are on a gasser wagon now.
Tommy :)
nukledragger 12th-October-2008, 10:33 PM An update; I had originally thought this one would be a parts car, but other than the quarters (bad rust), everything else is rust free:eek::eek:, I'm shocked. It had 15 years of dirt a 1/4 inch thick on the motor and interior, spent the day power washing everything (and about $15 in quarters). It may have potential but the quarters are toast all the way up to the windows. Inner rear fenders look good so far.

Tommy 13th-October-2008, 12:02 AM Looks nice. Got some pics of the quarters? Whats the little red sticker read next to the heater controls?
Tommy :)

Tommy :)
It's actually a little plastic business card holder from Phillips 66 (the station that did all the service work for the lady that owned it). I think it's kinda cool, probably will leave it.
The floors also turned out to be rust free. I can't figure out why the quarters are so bad, yet the floors are fine????
brownie 13th-October-2008, 05:21 PM could be a leak into the trunk is it the bottoms of the quarters or the whole panel.
nukledragger 14th-October-2008, 11:49 PM Could be, but the trunk is outstanding (note the pic above). The rust is about 8 inches all the way around the wheel well.
Tommy 15th-October-2008, 12:03 AM I think you should radius the wheel wells and make a day 2 drag car out of it.... Like this one

Tommy 15th-October-2008, 08:20 AM No, that is a fella named Jean. He posts over on the Hamb board. I don't think he has the Nova anymore. I think it's cool. I may cut the quarters on my 72 to look similiar to his.

That shouldn't be too hard  . Schonye might do it... I've got some antique table cloths with great patterns I bought just for painting lace panels .. The lady I bought them from was telling me how were specific to the 60's and how rare the patterns were and all that Jazz while I was only thinking how cool it was gonna be to lay them over the sail panels of a Nova and spray some wild color through them..... I didn't tell her that

Gets my vote. Add TBI to the mix.
BowtieGuy 16th-October-2008, 01:05 AM Has stated Hot Rod the 6, 200 4r and about a 3.42 ish rear. Stock apearing wheels,[key apearing]. Maybe a little gas for fun at the track but drive the snot out of it. I know you have the Race Car to turn into the Ricky Racer image. Just my $.02 :jumping:

lol lol, it's good to see that you're hitting the arts & krafts shows looking for hotrod stuff. Are you sure you weren't trying to weasel that old lady out of her blue '68 two door all the while pretending you were interested in the table cloths???? You should be ashamed...:devil::devil::devil:
Also, as you know, I dig the nose up stance, tow tabs and white walls, so the green one above with a little gold leaf lettering and race decals gets my vote !!!!!!!!!!
nukledragger 19th-October-2008, 11:32 PM An update; belive it or not, this thing runs. Before I start pulling all the parts off I was just curious, so I changed all the normal stuff, points, plugs, wires, cap, condensor, fuel pump etc. Couldn't pull fuel through the fuel lines, must be full of crap. Mice had lived in the air cleaner and also chewed through the brake lines.
None the less, ran the fuel line to a fuel jug, oiled the cylinders, changed the oil and she fired right up:eek::eek::eek:
So, naturally, I drove it.:D:D:D
FYI, you can drive one with a red 2 gallon fuel jug under the hood resting on the heater hoses and also without any brakes, just carefully use the e-brake and pull out the release if you need to keep going.....bwaaahahahaahahahaha
Tommy 30th-November-2008, 11:26 AM So whats the latest with the 68 ? Have you cut it up yet ?
Tommy :)
SPIKEYZ0 30th-November-2008, 01:26 PM hey tomy my 68 l78 nova had the curtains on it its a 06B built car sounds like some did some didnt:yes:
nukledragger 1st-December-2008, 12:17 AM So whats the latest with the 68 ? Have you cut it up yet ?
Tommy :)
No cutting up yet, it's wrapped up and put away for the moment (busy, it's duck season). Cleaned it up and cleaned out the fuel tank, it runs really gd. The powerglide has to be shifted manually (??) so I've got a friend locating a 2004r to throw in it, then replace the brake lines (chewed up by varmints) and then probably just drive it, why not.
Still trying to find a correct tunnelram and Grump Lump hood for the '70 :devil:
Sorry to see you sell the gold car.
Tommy 1st-December-2008, 12:30 AM The powerglide has to be shifted manually (??)
It's probably the torque drive transmission. That was a powerglide style trans that GM only put behind the inline six. it has to be shifted from low to high and back down to low. If you leave it in high the car takes off in high. They won't handle any real torque. Good luck with the Ducks :D
Tommy :)
nukledragger 1st-December-2008, 01:09 AM Thanks, your the second person to tell me that. I had not heard of that transmission, what a terrible idea. None the less, she's getting a 2004r as soon as possible.
