Before and During ...

After going back and forth on painting 'Sweet Pea" for several years, I finally bit the bullet. The 35 year old original paint was getting really bad, so it had to be done. New colors will be '07 Cadillac DTS Frost Green Metallic and '07 Cadillac Escalade White Diamond Pearl.

Here's what she looked like last Saturday:

And then here's today, right before I loaded her on the trailer and took her to the body shop:

Fortunately, the body is in pristine condition with only a couple little door dingers to fix. I'm going to have a new windshield put in while at the body shop, so I figured I'd let those folks pull my stainless trim around the windshield and rear glass. I pulled all the door and quarter trim out too, and removed all the side glass. Since I have the back seat out, I figured I might as well have both seats recovered and probably put in new carpet while I'm there. I'm trying to not let this project snowball too much - like the last (3 year) restoration on my other Nova. Yeah, right ...

Ahh, I figured some would ask why it was being painted. Proves my point about buying a car from ebay sight unseen. The picture definitely helps the paint look pretty decent. The vertical surfaces aren't bad, but the hood, top of the fenders, roof and deck lid are hideous. 29 years in the Panama sun has taken its toll on the paint.

Not a problem, Don. Can you get yours down here right now, while I have an empty bay in the shop? We can get her stripped and ready to go into paint as soon as mine comes out. That'll work, 'ol buddy, 'ol pal - just think ... between the two of us, we have two good, strong, working shoulders.
