hey guys
I have been trying to finish up the exterior on the 72 after the paint job in the spring and have had nothing but trouble with all of the repo chrome stuff to trim it out. Examples:
1--I cannot get the trunk and door locks to be held by the pieces behind the sheet metal that hold them on--How do you lock these on?!?!?!?!?
2--Cannot find speed nuts small or flat enough to hold the Nova by Chevrolet emblem on--small but aggravating
3--The chrome piece at the base of the back glass now rubs the deck lid when it closes--trunk gaps seem fine.
4---The chrome piece at the base of the windshield now sticks out too far and pushes the cowl out and now that rubs the hood--which by the way took a hunk of paint off!!
5--The brand new door handles I bought would not even engage the mechanism to open the door so I had to put my old ones back on to open the door.
6---The 350 emblems had an extra mini stud in the middle so I said "screw it "and drilled another hole in the middle.
7--The hood lip moulding barely fit and one of the studs was way off--when I went to put the center chevrolet logo on it barely fit too.
8--I have no clue how to put the rearview mirrors on--I bought the square ones from Scott's and it seems like with what you get you have to put the screws in and put nuts on the backsides to hold it on. And if you have a large hole instead of the small ones does that mean it was a remote mirror?
9--How do you reinstall door glass? I took mine out a while back and need a refresher course--: )
If anyone could help --especially on the locks, mirrors and door glass I would really appreciate it. Now I can see why people pay the bucks for the NOS stuff--most of the new stuff does NOT fit!! Thanks for letting me blow off steam--and hopefully finish the darn thing before I blow it up!!--Eric

I use a bit of grease on the tab/retainer clip and a nylon hammer to tap them after I pushed them by hand as far as possible.

Why won't a stard speed nut work? The stud on my emblems are 1/2" or longer.I think any of the resto place sell them though.

A picture will be needed to understand the rear glass trim hitting the trunk. It could be the glass is sitting to high in the opening do to too much sealer.

4,I'll need a pic too.

5 could be poor quality after market unfortunately

6,should have cut the stud off.

7,again aftermarket,it's hard to know who makes the good stuff.

8,9 not sure.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate the help--I am not technical by any means and when I run up against something tough it just bums me to not figure it out. this aftermarket stuff is a pain. And if I do this resto stuff again--there will be more notes and pics taken so that if I stay away from it again for a while I will know what to do--I read the guy's stuff about his floor pans--that seems like me!!

well i have yet to tackle nova glass but on all of the vehicles i have worked on you want to tilt the glass and an angle putting the front in first. that will get you in the door after that just screw with it till it fits.

7--The hood lip moulding barely fit and one of the studs was way off--when I went to put the center chevrolet logo on it barely fit too.

Don't the studs on the hood lip molding slide? That way they are adjustable and you can line them up as necessary?
