I have a 2 1/4 inch dual exhaust on my car with flowmaster 40 series. The tailpipes exit just behind the tires right now and it sounds pretty good, but the passenger side was bent incorrectly and is uneven under the car. I'm going to replace the entire exhaust at some point but am short on funds right now.
My question is, if i put a dump right after the mufflers instead of the tailpipes would the exhaust become obnoxious or sound "healthy"

depends upon how good your hearing is. if it's not so good you can dump it out at the mufflers. if your hearing is good, go for dumping it out the side behind the tires. maybe check the sound blanket behind the rear seat back also. many cars have the sound blanket that over time has slide down and that lets a lot of noise into the car.
maybe just cut out the incorrect bent part of exhaust pipe and have a new one bent. best of luck..........

I sound and heat insulated the entire car when I redid the interior so interior resonance isn't too big of a problem. Any idea how different it would sound, it would still go through the muffler, but just dump instead of through the tail pipes

I've got 40's turned down right after the mufflers, sounds awesome. Maybe a little too loud for some, but I like it. There is very little resonance, mostly when your blipping the throttle trying to get around parking lots and such. My biggest complaint is kicking up dust when you're in gravel driveways.

^^ What Hitman said. I think it sounds good (also much louder) but it really does kick up the dirt.

I like the sound of dumped mufflers.
