novaguy73 26th-August-2008, 02:22 PM 68 Chevy II
-56,000 original miles
-Straight and rust free with great teal paint.
-Perfect black interior, bench seat
-230 ci 6 cylinder
-column shift auto
-Ps/Pb
-The guy bought it from an old lady a while back with 22,000 original miles. His daughter had been driving it since. It got keyed while she was at college, so he had it repainted. He said while it was being repainted he told the body man to fix any rust on it. It apparently had a few small pin holes at the bottom of the front fenders and rockers but they were replaced with sheet metal and not bondo'd. I have not seen the car in person yet its about 30 minutes south but judging from my description what is a fair price here? He wants $11,750 I think thats really high. Am I wrong? He just sent me a few pics via email i can forward them if anyone wants, I dont know how to post them here.
joeusmc 26th-August-2008, 02:33 PM check out this site... it isnt very accurate because you cant fairly rate the car but it will give you a good idea. personally i think it is high

steves68 26th-August-2008, 03:11 PM To give you an idea last september I purchased a 68 nova from New Mexico. It was 99% rust free, totally untouched and still owned by the original owner. He bought it from Texas in 1968. Other than the dash pad being burned to a crisp from the sun in NM. it was in great condition. It also had the original 6 cyl. with a 3 speed manual transmission. I have a couple of photos on the site if you would like to see it. Oh I almost forgot I paid $6900.00. Good luck Steve
Allen_396 26th-August-2008, 03:27 PM A key thing is to factor in the cost of any work that you'd need done to it. If it's a turn-key car needing nothing inside or out, that's better than buying a less expensive car that you'll sink a ton o' cash into.
67mater 26th-August-2008, 04:31 PM that kind of shape in IA is gonna bring more money. This is rust central, so finding one like that is hard. I'd say 9-10k is not out of line. $.02
BillsNogo 26th-August-2008, 06:49 PM steves68, you got a steal
novaguy73, I would pay that amount. But then again, I really want a 68 :D:yes:
Tommy 26th-August-2008, 07:10 PM Is that the one listed in Hemmings this month? I think there were 2 68's this month in Hemmings. Some things to consider is the cost of putting a good solid shell together versus buying one together and running... A rusty car is always cheaper but getting to the same condition as a turn-key driver is almost always going to be more expensive. Tripoli Turquoise with a black interior... Very nice .
Tommy :)
taz3 26th-August-2008, 11:49 PM I wouldn't say it's a super deal,but in the same breath it's ready to go.If it fits your budget and desires,buy it up.
novaguy73 27th-August-2008, 01:44 PM Well its gone, hes already had 2 offers over 10K for it and im not spending 10K on anything.....Its a 6 cylinder Chevy II for crying out loud. A very nice one I must say but I cannot for the life of me understand why people are paying huge prices for these cars. 5 years ago that car went for less than 5K I bet.....

That's because Camaros and Chevelles are through the roof in value even for a basket case and fewer people can afford them now. That's what is bringing up the value of the Nova's

Buy a rusty '68 with missing parts and try to....
1. Fix the sheet-metal issues
2. Locate nice, serviceable, one-year-only 68 Nova parts
You'll eat up some cash and lots of time in a hurry. If that was a nice car, I don't feel the pricing was out of line at all. Plus, '68 Novas just aren't being made anymore.
novaguy73 28th-August-2008, 01:42 PM Well i look at it just like anything else with hotrods. You spend more on it then its worth every time and you never get your money back out of it. I built a 350 a while back that pushes a legit 475 or so hp on 89 octane gas. I spent 5K getting it there and id never get anywhere near that back out of it. Just like a body....just because it would cost me 10K to get it in that shape dosent make one worth that much....hell with people paying stupid prices i guess maybe it does.....I wont pay it, ill stick with my 73' if I have to
TechNova 28th-August-2008, 05:25 PM I bet this was the old boy that showed up at the Heartland reunion.
He was from the C.R./Waterloo area and his daughter had driven it to college.
Not to many teal 68's with that story in that area.
nova_rod 28th-August-2008, 08:02 PM Im so glad I bought my 72 nova, they seem to be worth a little bit of money.
Maybe one day I'll get rich!!!
ddoyel 28th-August-2008, 08:06 PM how about this one? http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102145
jason 68 L78 28th-August-2008, 10:07 PM I know it is a little late since the car is sold but the car had two thing’s going for it. The first thing was originality, even though it was a 6 cylinder. The second thing was it was a 68 nova! They are a one year only car which was the last year of the Chevy II. I offered a guy 3k for a 68 nova that is parked in his drive way. It has 4 flat tires and the interior is shot and needs a total restoration. But it is a low mile car from down south. But he won’t sell the car because it was his wife’s grandmother’s car! These cars are just getting very hard to find, not just the nova but just about any pre 70’s car. It all comes down to money which we all understand. My father taught me a long time ago if the deal was meant to be it would be parked in your drive way. Be patient and find the car that fit’s into your budget. I think the car was priced reasonable. Just my 2 cent’s!
